Chocolate in Copenhagen (2025)

The chocolate scene in Copenhagen is very different from (to?) what it was back in 2017. I collaborated with Vitoria and Jack, the owners of Bean To Bite, a new bean-to-bar store in Central Copenhagen, for this update.
Why This Update?
When Jack first contacted me, he mentioned that when Googling “Best Chocolate in Copenhagen,” the (now edited) original post from back in 2017 (link below) is a top result.

The OP Story. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, it was woefully out of date.
I have no plans to be in Copenhagen any time soon, so I asked Jack and his partner Vitoria to help me out and update me on the current Copenhagen chocolate scene.

Bean to Bite is located in the Bernikow Gården at Østergade 26A, 1100 København
I also wanted to make this update more tourist-friendly, so in addition to mentioning Bean to Bite, some other chocolate shops in Copenhagen, and some key bean-to-bar makers in Denmark that do not have shops in Copenhagen, we also compiled a short selection of places to visit near Bean to Bite, in what I call ...
A Chocolate Lover’s Guide to Copenhagen

Chocolate Shops to Visit
Anker Chokolade has two locations in Copenhagen, neither within close walking distance of Bean to Bite. Founded in 2015, their story is at the link below. They offer bonbons, bars, panned items, and cream buns. Both locations appear to be take-out only

Peter Beier Chokolade has at least four locations in Central Copenhagen. While they offer bonbons, cakes, ice creams, and other desserts, and have café seating and a Sunday Brunch menu, different locations offer different selections. The Peter Beier location closest to Bean to Bite appears to have ice cream only.
They own a cacao farm in the Dominican Republic.
Summerbird has multiple locations in Central Copenhagen, with at least two close to Bean to Bite. Founded in 1986, their story is at the link below. They make chocolate from beans, with Ecuador as the only highlighted origin.

Brands to Seek Out
Friis-Holm Chokolade (located in Roskilde) does not have its own retail location in Copenhagen. However, you can go to the page below, enter Copenhagen in the search box, and see the list of outlets where their award-winning chocolate is available.

I have known Mikkel for well over a decade and visited his first factory before it opened.
mellōw (located in Ballerup) does not have its own retail location in Copenhagen. However, you can go to the page below, enter Copenhagen in the search box, and see the list of outlets where their award-winning chocolate is available.

mellōw was a winner in the 2024 Craft Chocolat Challenge, which I judged.
Permanently Closed
Hotel Chocolat no longer has a shop in Copenhagen, but has locations in the UK and elsewhere.
Ro Chokolade (at Jægersborggade 16, Nørrebro) appears to be permanently closed, but TripAdvisor, Goop(!), Happy Cow, and other websites (as reported by a DuckDuckGo search) do not indicate this. There is no active website for Ro.
Two Fun Factoids (about Copenhagen)
1️⃣ While doing research for this article, I discovered that at least three of the companies mentioned on this page have direct connections to Michelin-starred chefs and kitchens.
2️⃣ I also learned that Copenhagen was recently identified as “The Happiest City in the World” in 2025.

I like to think that a vibrant chocolate community is one of the main reasons why.
