A large part of my work week is spent perusing chocolate news feeds.
I also subscribe to a number of professional journals to get their updates and have a Google Alert for “chocolate OR cacao OR cocoa.”
Unfortunately, this last sometimes returns updates for Cocoa Beach, Florida as well as for the Apple programming framework, though Google is getting better; I am assuming it is because of their increasing reliance on AI.
And then there are daily updates on LinkedIn and from social media sites – Twitter is (still) better than either Facebook or Instagram (despite everything Elon Musk appears to be doing to hobble the feed). There is literally nothing newsworthy on TikTok when it comes to chocolate I’ve discovered. The r/chocolate subreddit sometimes surprises.
The recent hubbub generated by the Consumer Reports article on heavy metals contamination made me think it would be interesting to go through my process of trying to decide what is newsworthy, what is not, and how I evaluate sources ... to make you a better consumer of chocolate news.
