Another sobering quote from the article:
“Within a US$100 billion confectionary industry, roughly US$6 billion is paid to farmers—a figure [snip] contrasted with the US$15 billion distributed to governments as Value Added Taxes (VAT). The implications are staggering: more money goes toward paying taxes on cocoa and chocolate than to the farmers who spend years sustaining the crop.”
