Episode 44 Overview

In this episode, ChocolateLife Contributor Keith Ayoob will join me to discuss his experiences attending the recent 2024 Craft Chocolate Experience held at the Palace of Fine Arts (shown in the featured image), which is located in the Marina District of San Francisco.

Craft Chocolate Experience

Links to all of the exhibitors shown below can be found on the Exhibitors page of the CCE website.

Keith just happened to be in San Francisco the weekend of the CCE – the only chocolate show I know of accompanied by a Prop 65 warning – and only had one day – Friday, an industry-only trade expo day – to case the show floor and chat with exhibitors.

Keith is a seasoned veteran when it comes to attending food chocolate trade shows and so I am looking forward to his thoughts.

Chocolate Covered – The San Francisco Chocolate Boutique

When in SF a visit to Chocolate Covered is very highly recommended for all chocolate fans.

In Candy Healthier Than Spinach? (source: Wall Street Journal)

The CCE came with its own Prop65 warning (on the FAQ page):

WARNING: The cocoa beans that we [Ed: Dandelion – though that is not made specifically who the β€œwe” is] use to make our chocolate can expose you to cadmium, which is known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Cadmium is a naturally occurring component in soil, and many plants take it up as they absorb nutrients, which is how it gets into our cocoa beans. According to the CDC, cadmium is commonly found in vegetables, and in relatively high concentrations in leafy greens like spinach. The law won't allow us to say much more about how the tiny trace amounts found in our product will affect your health, but if you want to reduce your exposure to cadmium generally, you might consider eating fewer leafy greens. Virtually all chocolate needs to have a Prop 65 warning, but if you'd like a more nuanced view or want to know more, visitΒ www.P65warnings.ca.gov
