OVERVIEW: Episode 181 features a preview of two annual reports that should be released in the next 90 days – The 7th edition of The Chocolate Scorecard and Tony’s Chocolonely’s Annual “Fair” (emphasis added) Report. What should we expect based on last year’s findings?

Episode 181 Overview

In this episode: What we can learn from the 2025 annual reports from Be Slavery Free (the 6th edition of The Chocolate Scorecard) and the 2024/2025 “Fair” report from Tony’s Chocolonely.

The timing is especially propitious given that it’s Amsterdam Cocoa Week and the CHOCOA conference.

In particular, I will be returning to some of the shortcomings (in my opinion) of last year’s reports and what I hope the 2026 reports will address.

Chocolate Scorecard

Chocolate Scorecard is coordinated by Be Slavery Free, with universities, consultants and civil society groups engaging in transforming the chocolate industry.

Chocolate remains one of the riskiest industries for modern slavery, with child labour and poverty‑level incomes still widespread. Simple switch: choose brands rated well on the Chocolate Scorecard, or go for small Australian bean‑to‑bar makers who are transparent about their sourcing.

When the 2026 reports are released, I will be doing deep dives into both of them.
