TheChocolateLife::LIVE – Top Q&A About Chocolate on Social Media

Episode 60 streams live from 12:00 EDT on Friday, September 16th. This is a “live remote” from Prescott, Arizona, where I am taking a much-needed break.

Like many people these days, I spend a fair bit of time perusing social media platforms. I personally manage active accounts on Facebook (TheChocolateLife page and the group Salones Internacionales del Cacao y Chocolate), Twitter (@discoverchoc @chocolatewire), YouTube (TheChocolateWire), on Instagram (@discoverchoc @chocolate.wire), and on LinkedIn.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would follow, join, and/or subscribe to as many of those accounts as makes sense to you, given your social media consumption habits.

I also am a member of and participate in r/chocolate on Reddit as well as on a number of Facebook groups, and I also subscribe to a number of YouTube channels.

Follow me, mention your social media channel(s) in the comments, and I will follow back.

The Interconnectedness of All Things InterWebs

Not surprisingly, the same topics show up across all of these accounts, pages, groups, and channels – over and over (and over) again. What seems to me to be the prevailing trend is that people don’t actually look to see if their question has been asked and answered before.

So it’s not all that uncommon to see posts about the same topic asking basically the same question – on the same day, in the same group.

I have a couple of theories why this might be the case:

  1. People think their situation is unique, so even if the exact same question has been asked before, it won’t apply in their situation.
  2. The search capabilities of most platforms is rudimentary at best, or ill-considered to handle the volume and complexity of the search requests. (This is a very hard problem to handle on a site like TheChocolateLife, let alone a platform like Facebook.)
  3. People are lazy – they don’t even try to use the search function to see if the question has been asked before.

Finally, many have been trained to think that answers to complex technical questions should be free. We’ll take a look at why this can be a challenge, and why you may not get what you don’t pay for.

Topic TL;DR Recap

In this live stream we’ll be taking a look at some of the Top Topics that are asked on social media apps ad nauseum – and give tips you can use to make your search for answers on social media platforms more successful.
