Episode 95 Overview
People who know my history are aware of the fact that I represented FBM in the US and globally to ChocolateLife members from mid-2012 to the end of 2019.
I am partly responsible for some of FBM’s bean-to-bar product line ... from hits like the Kleego and the Craft Chocolate Upgrade for their tempering machines to (what I perceive to be missed opportunities like the Ninja, Grindgo, and Rumbo –as well as a false start that I still maintain is a great idea. I translated user manuals, wrote and developed troubleshooting and application guides, and worked on application-specific versions of stock equipment for makers of cannabis edibles.
I have also provided input to other manufacturers on cracker/winnowers, melangers, and many more machines. Havng visited a workshop in Italy where machines are still driven by a central belt drive, I take inspiration from a project called the Global Village Construction Set, thinking about, for example, how a single motor might be used for multiple tasks to reduce total cost of ownership.
This episode is a Q&A about equipment because I am working with an equipment manufacturer on the following:
- Coating pans
- Fluid-bed roaster specifically for cocoa
- Continuous tempering machines
- Ball mills (lab scale through production)
- Roll mills
- Conches
- Enrobing lines
- One-shot and volumetric bar depositors
I want your input.
I know what I know.
But I don’t know what I don’t know – and I don’t know what you know, want, and need. So here are some questions I am looking to understand better...
- What pieces of equipment (for craft chocolate makers) are missing from my list
- What sizes interest you most
- What features interest you most?
- What are your experiences with customer service and what might improve them?
- What do you like about your existing equipment that could be improved?
- What do you dislike about your existing equipment that could be improved?
