Episode 114 Overview
For the past several years, when a new Chocolate Scorecard is released (just in time for Easter gifting), I take a critical look at the Scorecard – the results, what is being reported on, and how. The 2025 Scorecard is the subject of this episode. If you are interested in doing some homework before the episode, you might be interested in reviewing previous episodes on this topic.
Prior to being coordinated by Be Slavery Free, the Scorecard was overseen by Mighty Earth and the WWF.
Tony’s 23/24 Annual “Fair” Report
I have devoted time to review prior annual “Fair” reports from Tony’s Chocolonely, and I will be taking a quick look at key takeaways from their 2023/2024 report (a Flipbook presentation viewable online that can be downloaded as a PDF.)
Top line stats: A 14% increase in the number of farming families. 1 new co-op. 870kg cocoa/farmer purchased (13 1/3 bags, average). Even with record prices for cocoa they also paid a PREMIUM of > $2000/MT?
