TheChocolateLife :: LIVE – Samir Giha, Cacaosuyo, Perú
Episode 38 starts streaming to you live from Brooklyn NY & Lima, Perú at 12:00 EDT / 11:00 PET Tuesday, May 3rd.
I can’t recall if Cacaosuyo was in business back in 2013 when I made my first visit to Perú for the Salon del Cacao y Chocolate in Lima.
But by the time I returned for the Salon the next summer they had already started to establish themselves in the market. I returned in 2015 and then again in 2017 by which time Cacaosuyo had corralled heaps of recognition from international awards programs and positioned itself as one of the major names in specialty chocolate within Perú and around the chocolate-loving world.
Because establishing and growing an international brand does not keep him nearly busy enough, Sam now finds himself president of an ICCO working group charged with promoting cacao, in which capacity he sees communicating about illegal labor in cacao as integral to that effort.
Join me as Sam and I discuss how he found his ChocolateLife, growing cocoa and making chocolate in Perú, building an international brand, and his work with ICCO.
