Episode 54 Overview

AVPA, the Agency for the Valorization of Agricultural Products, is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, mainly composed of producers and taste enthusiasts. The association’s goal is to enhance the value of agricultural products and to recognize the excellence of certain producers too often forgotten in this era of industrial production and mass marketing.

AVPA currently organizes four competitions for products manufactured in producing countries – Coffees Roasted at Origin, Teas of the World, World Edible Oils, and Chocolates Processed at Origin.

In this episode of #PodSaveChocolate the focus will be on chocolate, naturally, but there will be a broader discussion of how AVPA operates and what distinguishes this chocolate competition from other competitions.

From the AVPA website (edited from the original French > English translation):

AVPA’s Chocolates Processed at Origin contest is organized to recognize that cocoa-producing countries know how to develop chocolates of quality, equal to, and sometimes better than, those made by major brands in consumer countries.

This inte
rnational contest proposes a classification that allows the expression of all the traditional tastes encountered among chocolatiers in cocoa-producing countries.

One way in which this contest differs is that all entries must come from companies transforming cocoa beans into finished chocolates in a producing country.

The composition of the juror and the judging process itself is also unusual and that’s something we will take a close look at.

In addition to producing these competitions, AVPA offers a variety of services to its members.

🗒️
To enter into an AVPA competition entrants must become an AVPA member. This makes entry comparatively expensive, but it does provide access to services not offered by other competitions.
