Episode 29 Overview In the weeks leading up to Easter, organizations around the world are hopping to it, metaphorically speaking, publishing guides aka scorecards to âethicalâ chocolate brands â ones to laud and grace with our patronage and ones to cast aside as not worthy of our custom and to avoid.
One question that always comes to my mind when I see one of these guides is, âWhy should anyone pay attention to them?â

SPOILER ALERT: People like these scorecards because they serve as proxies for doing their own research.
To understand why I ask this question and have come to the conclusions I havee, itâs important to take a look at what the scorecards do â and donât â say and what we can learn from looking at the progress of the scorecards and the information they present. And thatâs what I will do in this episode.
Chocolate â Be Slavery Free
The current publisher of the scorecard being examined in this episode - Be Slavery Free. Given what I have seen of this yearâs scorecard and the âprogressâ over past scorecards, this is not an organization I can recommend supporting.

I wish I could provide a link to download a PDF of the 2024 scorecard but it appears as if no such link exists. Thatâs part of the problem of what I can only assume is a deliberate attempt to make it harder than it should be to ascertain progress.
